Hi John,

The 1st M1 was based on the Altera Max FPGA. At the time, we went this
route because there was no other option available. The system drew just
over 1W but could handle both VGA and NTSC signals.

The newest M1, the M1 RS170, is based on the Motorola 111 ASIC.
(http://www.tekgear.ca/product.cfm?sku=0242) The driver board is about the
size of a quarter and the system draws only 200mW. Sure it will only handle
NTSC/PAL but this seems to be the best use for the displays. It also keeps
pin count down on the cable making for a nice thin wire between your device
and the HMD.

My recommendation is to focus on a MotoASIC solution instead of going the
microcontroller based solution.
