Hello Dan (& all), (before all, my apologies for my english... :) ) 0- This product is not a new one it is NEARLY this product : AMD Geode™ GX Thin Client Reference Design Kit http://www.amd.com/us-en/ConnectivitySolutions/ProductInformation/0,,50_2330_9863_9864%5E11157,00.html AMD official pdf here : http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/31754A_gxthinclientrdk_pb.pdf designed with and sold by (Web)DTResearch, more info here : http://www.dtri.com/prod_webDT166CE.html and the true technical pdf url is : http://www.dtresearch.com/datasheets/WebDT%20166.pdf BUT... sold with an optional Hard Drive and some optional preinstalled operating systems (WinCE, WinXPemb., Linuxemb.) 1- It would be nice if someone can give verified informations about the 40-80GB Hard Drive that is used in this mini-pc. I saw on a forum that this could be Samsung Spinpoint 40GB 2.5" HD. If it is right, it's something like this : http://www.memorysuppliers.com/sasp4054mpat.html Pictures and REALLY detailed benchmark here : http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/samsung-mp0402h/ 1-a) But I wonder why it would be nonremovable, perhaps because it is not supposed to be opened (warranty void) ? 1-b) And I wonder how they attached this Hard Disk to the official AMD Geode™ GX Thin Client Reference Design Kit that do not seem to have any hard disk connectors... nor real free place... any ideas? 2- If you do not want any Hard Drive, they seem to sell one without Hard Drive here : http://www.cool-shop.de/product_info.php?products_id=23&cPath=5 with 32 or 64 Mo FlashROM and with Linux Embedded (too sad there is no more details... :( )or Windows CE or WIndowsXP embedded. http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/windowsxpembedded/default.aspx which is exactly the original AMD Geode™ GX Thin Client Reference Design Kit. 3- (Not on this particular german mini PC...) About (non-official-embedded) WinXP on "slow" PC, I made some tests with some WinXP installation that are tweaked to have little memory usage (55-60 Mo RAM) and good speed even on old CPUs (It worked pretty well on a PII 450). The one I tryed is called WINLSD III -you'll have to use a legal serial number you owned to legally use it- but there are other flavours of shrinked/tweaked/optimized XP. There are tweaked win2K setup too. I rather prefer Win2K on WinXP. But... well... I rather prefer Debian Linux above all... who cares about Windows again... ;) ---- F.M. "surprise website" will be soon opened :) Thursday, July 14, 2005, 1:00:30 AM, you wrote: DT> http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS5147900390.html DT> A German PC shop is shipping a tiny Geode-based PC available with a DT> choice of Linux operating systems.
