Homebrew sv-6

I have been following several hobby HMD projects and have found that most of the
components involved in a device similar to Microoptical's SV-6 are readily
available at extemely low prices.

I have been speaking with Michael Guo's and following the progress on his
homebrew HMD integration into a pair of sunglasses:
http://michaelguo.com/hardware/hmdhacking.php

He basically uses a Tekgear M1 display (which i believe uses Kopin CyberDisplays
as the actual LCD). These kopin cyberdisplays are as cheap as $60 for a 320 by
240 black and white model. He also uses a beamsplitter that reflects 50% of light
(although I have read that is is better for a monocular display to be opaque over
the dominant eye). These beamsplitters are about $30.

I am seeking information on basically building a device comparable to a
microoptical sv-6 (for personal use) as I am sure the parts are available for far
less than $1995.00. What kind of optics are they using? How does the device work?
Is the sv-6 opaque or is it using a beamsplitter? Any info would be extremely
helpful.
