Three words stand in your way: Optics, optics, optics. Don's devices used a transmissive display which, in turn, made the optical solution much easier. With a reflective display, the illuminator is in the front of the screen and light is reflected off of it. The optics have to be placed in-line of the reflected light. This makes the optical solution much more difficult and alignment is much more critical. The Brillian LCOS is a great display for OEM's - hacking is another story.
