PalmIII replacment

Hello everyone
I'm off on a family get together and I had to leave my laptop behind
because it has Li-Ion batter and they died of old age a long time. It's
not worth the $225.00 for a replacement battery and I'd need two for 6+
hours of use. Now on the other hand my Palm III has been working
perfectly for over 6 years now but doesn't have any way to expand
memory to store all my E-books and documents.

I need something that will ether give me 8+ hours of battery life and
along me to work plugged it or 36 hours of battery life and swappable
battery's(It can be warm swap) has USB host or compact flash. If it
doesn't have USB host I'd need a serial port to add the keyboard and
other Wearable stuff. Being able to play MP3s would be a plus but not
required.

Some of the new linux handhelds looked good like the SL-6000 but if it
cost over $200 It'll need to last me at least 10 years not 2-3 years
like most of the stuff out these days(that's how long the proprietary
Li-ion batter will last) I'm looks for something under $800, I'm
looking for a PalmIII, that was only $300 6 years ago, with a
USB(host) port.

Any you heard of anything like that?
