You are correct that each display is set either right or left. It needs a 3D video card (such as nVidia) that has an additional L/R signal. Without the 3D card, you just get all frames on the same OLED image. The 3D functionality is a nice extra, but you don't need to use it. The other main difference is that the 3D OLED is only 800 pixels wide, but the older SVGA+ is ~852 or something (for watching DVDs). We've been driving the V-V OLED displays at SVGA/256-color with our ARM computers for ~3 years. And we have a new product designed (but haven't bothered to build) that is an X-terminal (or VNC terminal) in a sub 3" square package that takes USB in and drives 15-pin VGA or SVGA out. We'll probably build some once we have our SMT line operating downstairs. Its intended as a companion product to an ultra-low-power personal computer that has no video out, but USB host and device ports (plus optional GPS, cell-radio, RS-232, RS-485, etc.) running Linux 2.6.12 on a 266 MHz 32-bit ARM-920T core. That computer also has an SDIO slot for expansion, plus IrDA, and stereo audio IN and OUT (and a 2.5mm headset jack for standard cell-phone hands-free kits). Just some of the new things we're building.
