I've been scouring the Web for thoughts on wearables lately, and of =
course came across Steve Mann and the whole Eyetap concept. I even =
found a link to a picture of one of Mann's designs on this forum. (For =
those of you who missed it, =
http://wearcam.org/dusting/dusting_with_stef/lensmid_wireframes/dsc541.jp=
g). The elegance of that model is far superior to most of the HMDs on =
the market, and I understand that versions of the WearComp were =
completely covert as early as the mid-1990's. A couple of questions =
therefore immediately spring to mind:

DISClAIMER: I'm not an engineer or designer! Just a major geek with an =
interest in wearables. So apologies in advance if I ask a question =
that's obvious to the rest of you.

1. Can one or more of the Eyetap designs (primarily video from what I =
understand) not be adaped for use as an HMD for a wearable PC? If not, =
what are the constraints?

2. Given that Mann seemed to be fairly free with his designs at least =
through 1997, why has the WearComp not had more influence? It seems =
that people are still struggling with design problems that Mann would =
certainly have had to overcome to get the kind of functionality he =
did...

Just trying to wrap my mind around all this, and there seems to be a =
major disjunct between the level to which Mann has taken the technology =
and other homebrewed models I've seen out there.=20

Best,
Nathan
