Folks- My students have completed their work on the Twiddler keyboard evaluations and have made a Twiddler tutor (Twidor) to get people up to speed quickly. This tutor really has a lot of thought put into it and its concepts have proven to be pretty successful (see the papers linked from the web site). Hmm...we should probably still shoot a quick video showing how to (and not to) hold the Twiddler. Hope people find the Twidor useful! Thad -------- Howdy! Twidor, the Twiddler Tutor has finally arrived for public consumption. Details can be found here: http://www.cc.gatech.edu/ccg/projects/twidor/ It's a simple java program that displays the twiddler in one section of the screen and highlights keypresses to aid the user in finding what combination to press next. - Multi-character chords are enabled by default, and the default keymap is that of the Twiddler 2. - There is support for overriding the default keymap, lesson plan, and lessons (examples on the webpage). - Measures speed in WPM, and average error rate based on minimum string distance and fixes (Soukeroff and Mackenzie's latest method). - Experimentation has shown that it can take a novice from 0-20 wpm in about 2 weeks of practice (at about 20 minutes a day). Expert rates of over 60 wpm! I suppose I have to field questions and comments on it, since I am the author and maintainer. So! Fire away. Bugs, problems, etc. () Enjoy ~Gibby -- _______________________________________________ Wear-Hard mailing list
