I have located yet more technological detrius that could be useful in the hands on someone skilled with embedded systems hacking. The Sandisk Photo Album is a $30-40 set-top box with multiple card-readers, USB master and client, and video out. It is based on the Atmel AT76C113 cpu which is ARM7TDMI core based. JTAG is present on the board. This system is, of course, woefully underpowered for anything exciting - but if one can get a basic bootloader and kernel onboard, storage isn't a problem. Look at it as a $40 small SBC with onboard video(NTSC) and USB master.
