RE: What to do with recordings of your entire day?

Thank you very mich Vitorio for your suggestions on a full-day wearable =
video capture solution. We are now definitely considering
your suggested design rather than PDA + web cam.

As for your open question on the utility of everyday constantly =
recording systems I can give you some pointers (in case you haven't
heard about them already). One is the MyLifeBits project
http://research.microsoft.com/barc/mediapresence/MyLifeBits.aspx
Another is the research of Steve Mann on EyeTap
http://www.eecg.toronto.edu/~mann/
A third is the general wearable computer community (check out for =
instance the Georgia Tech wearable research group) but I guess you
are aware of this kind of work already since you are subscribing to this =
discussion forum.

It is surely interesting to speculate for what and how these capturing =
systems can become practical. In particular I find the
potential use for the common man (rather than for specialized work =
forces) very interesting.

Anyway, our current pragmatic goal in the easyADL project is a quite =
straightforward one: we intend to perform some ethnographical
studies in order to manually identify everyday object manipulation. That =
manually collected data will be fed into activity
recognition algorithms in order to teach the "egocentric interaction" =
system how particular everyday activities look. For more info
on the idea and approach, please check out the web page:
http://www.cs.umu.se/research/easyadl/
In the future we hope that the data we will manually collect by studying =
the captured video will be possible to capture
automatically. For now, we do it manually.

Once again Vitorio, thanks for your hints on video capturing technology.
