The next generation of devices is supposed to do eight hours.

USB host isn't a big deal these days, imho.  Gumstix devices (and any 
Linux device with CF) can have it using the Ratoc USB host CF card. 
Also, the GP2X console has USB host built-in, and someone recently 
ported the Qtopia handheld environment to work on it, including USB 
mouse, keyboard and wifi running off the USB host.

The GP2X is a Linux-based handheld console with a complete development 
environment available, gets ~6 hours of constant use battery life from 
2AA batteries, two 200MHz ARM processors (920T and 940T) video out, SD 
slot, 64MB RAM, 64MB flash ROM, and a 320x240 backlit LCD, for around 
$190 US.
