Mostly because each paper needs to have several reviewers. Many reviewers end up reading quite a few papers - I've reviewed 10-15 for past conferences. Last year there were more than 700 pages worth of submissions - do you really want to spend a week doing nothing else than reviewing? Feel free to volunteer! Once papers come back from reviewers, the program committee has to go through all the reviews and pick out which ones to accept, which can be a difficult process. Then we have to let the authors have time to submit the final draft - this is where updates to technology can be integrated. If you think you've got something that's relying on advancing technology so much that an extra four months will completely change it, then there are a variety of other conferences you can submit to whenever it's ready. dan On 4/21/06, jon sable <> wrote: > Why? > Why have an april 21/24 submission deadline for an event in OCtober 11th? > sure one could argue time required to review submissions, however a blin= d > man with one hand could review the average ISWC submissions in a week > easy. > > I think there needs to be a revisions, for Students at least, in general > i'd like the submission deadline extended until 2 months prior to event. > Computing technology changes so fast an energy efficient platform today > some five months prior to a wearable computing convention, is old when > come to show time. > > Are submission deadlines, following some rule of IEEE? if not mind > giving a bit of elaboration as to why such short deadlines??? > > As a list subscriber for a few years i've often wondered at such early > submission deadlines, if five months are required to review a students o= r > anybodys submission, then what are the specific examination principals > and practices. > > i'll probably visit your convention, mostly to see some work of my defens= e > spending, still since i'm a student currently and another student asked m= e > the same question, i feel obligated to pass on the above. > > Best Regards, > > wmwmwmw > > > > On Fri, 24 Mar 2006, Daniel L.
