portable IR repeater?

Hello,

I have just ordered an abacus au5007. I found a user who has been able
to connect use his wristwatch to connect to the internet using the IR
port and his phone.

So here's what I'm wondering, how do I get the IR signal from my
wristwatch to my phone in a belt holster?

What I'm imagining is a portable device that functions like a Xantech IR
repeater system (Xantech Dinky Link IR Receiver, Xantech CB20 connecting
block, power supply and 282M emitter).

If I had two of the Xantech systems (one for each direction of data),
would that even work to repeat an IRDA connection?

Is there a way to minimize the size and weight of the components? Or
perhaps there is already a solution intended to solve this very problem,
like for connecting some PDA to a computer when the line of sight is a
problem.

Thanks,

Craig
