SVHMPC--now that's quite an acronym Daniel mentioned his idea to me after dorkbot. I didn't get it at first either. But I have an intuition about what he's getting at. Let me see if I can find some words...this may get a bit lengthy and disorganized... CDMA cards, I could be wrong, but I think of them as big and power hungry. They stick out the side of your device, add extra bulk, and so on. Having to carry a wearable AND a cell phone, tethered with a cable, or over bluetooth--extra weight, extra battery, extra cables to tangle, or in the bluetooth case, more battery consumption, and for some of use a little concerned about extra radiation. I think what Daniel is getting at, is the idea of something like the his T-mobile MDA. Has built in Wifi, bluetooth, GPRS. If it had a VGA out and USB host, it would make a great wearable core. Not nearly expensive as the OQO, better battery life, built in connectivity of just about any kind you may want, smaller, lighter, etc. Since nothing like that is commercially available, or even likely to be [there just doesn't seem to be a market for USB host, VGA out on a smartphone] then perhaps some home brew mobile phone solution, a small lightweight solution, could be easily added in to some home brew wearable computer to fit the bill. And if so, then it may appeal to more people. The younger crowd who sees a cell phone as an essential, uses it somewhat as a wearable already. They already have a space in their brains for the concept of a cell phone, and even of a smartphone. Now you just have to expand it a little bit and say, how would you like to use it without having to take it out of your pocket? Easier than trying to explain why they would want to carry around a laptop in a fanny pack and hook up a keyboard...they've tuned out already. And all that extra bulk and what have you, and it won't run all day, hmm... It's 5am and I'm rambling a bit, need to get back to sleep...
