I can only just barely still use my vaio u1 as a primary machine, which is an oversized oqo 01 (classic). and only then because i've gotten used to it for the past few years. i've never tried a u1400 core solo processor for comparison, but if it runs anything like a 1ghz p-m i'd be thrilled. the shared video memory upset me at first, stealing away from the preciously limited ram, but then the crusoe on the oqo steals some ram for the cms software (16mb on my u1) the ux seems to have more i/o than the oqo, one thing i noticed was the ux includes a microphone port, which is an overlooked feature on the oqo useful for voice recognition or voip. I haven't found reference to whether the av-out on the ux's cradle & cable is composite or s-video, but this would cut out the bulk of a video converter for hmd. none of the pictures i've seen so far include the ux's cable for vga/lan/av-out, so if it turns out to be a monstrosity, oqo would win out again in space savings. i've had good experience with sony battery life estimates. when my u1 batteries were new, i'd match the lower end of the range with everything on and met or exceeded when i dropped into stingy power mode. to this day i get close to 5 hours with the old, heavily used extended battery with wifi running. following is a quick and dirty comparison chart i made of the oqo 01+ and the ux90/180. I own neither, but was just about to convince myself i could justify an oqo when i heard about the ux. i'm sure it looks ugly in email, but it's tab delimitted for easy viewing in your favorite tool. spec oqo 01+ ux cpu 1ghz crusoe 1.2ghz u1400 hd 30gb 30gb ram 512mb 512mb length 4.9" 5.91" width 3.4" 3.74" height 0.9" 1.27" weight 14oz 19.2ox screen 5" trans 4.5" resolution 800x480 (ext 1280x1024) 1024x600 (ext 1600x1200) vram 8mb (dedicated) 128mb (shared) wifi 802.11b 802.11a/b/g bluetooth yes (1.1) yes (2.0) firewire 4-pin (dock+1) dock 4-pin (dock +1) usb 1x2.0 (dock +1) 1x2.0 (dock +3) headphone 3.5mm 3.5mm mic built in built in / 3.5mm speaker built in built in std. battery 3hrs 4.5hrs ext. battery 6hrs 9hrs ethernet cable dock / cable vga port cable/adapter dock / cable os xp tablet xp pro camera no 0.3mp front, 1.3mp back fingerprint no yes a/v out no yes pcmcia no no cf slot no yes (jp only, gprs/edge us) ms duo no yes av-out no dock / cable usb boot yes unknown _______________________________________________ Wear-Hard mailing listhttp://www.haven.org/mailman/listinfo/wear-hard
