history tells us that the Sony handheld units from U1/3/101/X series are
only on the shelf for a short period of time in Japan and even shorter in
the USA.

And then in a few months they will come out with a new model in Japan only.
Then another few months it may or may not come out in the USA, available at
Sonystyle and Compusa usually. Of course you can always use dynamism.com or
conic.net to import from Japan.
