My previous setup was a computer ouputting 640x480 @ 60Hz, connected
to a scan converter that put out NTSC, connected to a display. The
display was a Centra Eyetop, which is (I think) 320x240. The eyetop
has a converter box that takes an NTSC signal and converts it a signal
that can be used by the 320x240 LCD.

The chip in the Spy Gear display serves a similar purpose. It takes in
a NTSC signal, which is something like 648x486 (slightly less is
actually viewable), and converts it to signals that can drive the
display. You get the full field of view of the NTSC signal (nothing
gets cut off at the edges), but reduced to a lower resolution (things
are tiny and lacking in detail).
