The problem with the pockets is that most people like to carry stuff in them. :) The other thing is, try sitting down and putting your hands in your pockets! Maybe it can be done with suit pants, but with a pair of jeans it becomes painful. However, sitting down, your hands fall naturally about mid-thigh - in fact, almost exactly the same spot they naturally fall if you let your arms dangle while standing...
