Yes, it happened with the group Twiddler purchase a while back. But there weren't tons of daily updates about it for weeks on end. I would like announcements of group purchase initiatives, but then just informational updates to this list once a week on how it is going, not daily or multiple times per day. Discussion among the participants could happen however they want it to, but off this list. You can then choose to participate on a daily basis or not, with everyone brought up to date with just one summary message weekly. Maybe someone could set up a web page to vote on this, but I can't. The result of the vote could be put on a mailing list FAQ perhaps on the MIT site. Of course Thad got tired of reminding people to "RTFW" a while back and gave up, but maybe it is time to put a pointer to the web-site FAQ auto-appended to every message sent to this list? That would hopefully also help with newbies asking things like "Could you please tell me everything you already discussed 10 times, again, because I am either unaware of (or too lazy to check) the web page?" It's sad because people put some work in to put those pages up. On the other hand I don't want to come off as hammering the organizers of group purchases. Cooperation is always nice to see.
