What do you guys think? > > Alexander I sent this pipedream to Alexander but it could be fun to talk about What I would build if I were King is: I am going to start with the upper level parts of the plan a work down. in this system there would be two types of stations fixed and moble. Routing would be based on a system using something like GPS positions for fix units. Some fixed units would have servers conected to them for moble units to update there positions with. Each device would stay in contact with its nabers. It would keep track or its fixed nabers and any mobles that have spoken to it. When a fixed wanted to send data to a fixed unit they would simpy send out a routing request and which would find on all paths its way to the location and back. It could then comunicate haveing a route. Of course the other fixed would also have a route. There could be all sorts of tweeks to make things more efective like limmiting the number of hops or suggesting a path. If a moble wanted to talk to a fixed they would first set up a relationship with a fixed then follow the same process. If they moved out of range the would have to set up a new relationship with a new fixed and also set up a forward my packets with the old unit. Finding a moble woudl be the hard part a fixed would contact a moble server that the moble in question would bekeeping updated then it would be able to set up a connection the fixed near the moble than with the moble data would be sent by store and forward but there could also be cut-through stations that could move it faster. Now the hardware, units would find there nabers through all sorts of media the easy ones would be the wired connected others could use the switched networks and still others would use small chunks of spectrum were there was no regulation or where low power was ok. Units could make use of things like inferred or microwaves where they were possable. The internet could carry traffic a lot of the time. we could even hitch rides on power lines and other conducters (if the other shoe drops) it would be up to the comunicating people to secure the comunications. This would have a problem with localizing the users but that could be cut down by anonymos points that would proxy people if they wished. I bandwidth would be vearable from place to place but this is supposed to be a gerrila system no a comercial system. Of course you would want to be able to use gateways and from the internet. people could setup there own or they could join clubs (like that amature repeter clubs) or use public gateways. Since the bandwidth would be spotyit would not be of mutch use to the corprats. It would also be better to have a mail server at home and talk to it rather than trying to do everthing on your back. I would expect that if such a system was to grow it would end up being a organic mess but peoples interest in having it work would tend to keep it limping along. There would be people that would setup private nodes and if they bothered people they would suffer social pressures to conform. The system would be unregulated and unregualtable the more the goverment tryed to stop it the more arms it could grow. This is my pipe dream I an not an analog type of guy so I may be wissiling in the wind but this is where I would start. Your thoughts? Charles Puffer
