(hopefully the former, the glasses are only $170, a nice price by comparison to most hmd's. > > I have pair of Simuleyes - they are shutter glasses not LCD and therefore screenbound. A good buy for the dollar though obviously the Crystal Eyes which is their professional glasses are far superior for wireless stereo 3D eyewear. Originally a game goggle it works with... Descent II™ Test Flight Slipstream™ 5000 Rise of the Triad™ In Pursuit of Greed:™ World I Whiplash™ ...and I think I've tried them with Doom. They are cool, there's no doubt, but they are low-end. I don't know of any better in their class though. Way better than Sega or the like. The worst I've had that were new on the scene last year were the ones from VRex. I forget what they are called, I gave them away to a kid. They promised 3D video viewing and well - kinda did. Other shutters are made by 3D Max http://www.threed-max.udac.se/ NuVision http://www.nuvision3d.com You should also check out 3DTV's products. They have all kinds of display-wear. These are the sys requirements for SimulEyes.... SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: IBM or compatible multimedia PC with a minimum of 486/66 Mhz CPU (Pentium preferred), -- Pentium is best CD-ROM Drive, VGA graphics card and VGA multisync monitor capable of 80Hz refresh rate (most 15" or larger monitors). -- 17 inch is much better 4MB RAM required to run the games that come with SimulEyes (8 MB for Windows 95) blah, blah... SimulEyes runs on AA batteries in a battery pack that's wired to the glasses. And there's the problem. I found the pack to be cheaply made and hence unstable. The glasses cut out every once in a while. I went through 3 packs before it worked (good support, StereoGraphics kept giving me a new pack). Also you shouldn't leave the unit on, or with the batteries inside, for long periods. My pack melted! You plug in the adaptor (that leads to the pack which in turn leads to the glasses) into the monitor port and plug your monitor into the adaptor, so it sticks out quite a ways. There are no specs on the web site that I can see and I can't seem to locate my file on them yet. StereoGraphics is now marketing SimulEyes as a web viewer. StereoGraphics offers two utilities for viewing stereoscopic images posted on the Web with SimulEyes: SG-Toggle, the desktop accessory and the SimWeb3d browser plug-in. SG-Toggle a Windows accessory for manually enabling and disabling stereo image viewing with the SimulEyes glasses that can be theoretically used with your web browser, or any other stereo application. It is available for Windows 3.1 (16-bit), and for Windows 95 and NT 4.0 (32-bit). I haven't tried this yet myself. But have used SG-Toggle. These can be downloaded for free off their site. SG-Toggle activates SimulEyes by setting the display into interlaced video mode and places a white line code at the bottom of the screen. There are also stereo image demos on site. The website is wonky but you can try it. http://www.stereographics.com/html/simuleyes.html http://www.Stereographics.com/html/web_viewer.html and the application form for developers is at ftp://ftp.stereographics.com/developers/dev_app.pdf You can purchase SimulEyes from the site through a vendor list of distributors and retailers. NewBreed as you know supplies most display tech including the SimulEyes. They provide mostly to university or research based clients and developers as well as to some volume buyers that they do busines with. The SRP is listed as USD $119.00. That's about all I have at the moment. Except that they wiegh about 2 oz's and look cool. Good design aesthetic. As soon as I find the specs I'll post. Ed -------------
