i am waiting for delivery of my glasstrons (plm-a55), i will post my
findings in the next few weeks about how they work/feel.
best background from the list is:
http://wearables.ml.org/wear-hard/19982043.html
http://wearables.ml.org/wear-hard/19982173.html
http://wearables.ml.org/wear-hard/19982057.html
http://wearables.ml.org/wear-hard/1998785.html
http://wearables.ml.org/wear-hard/19982164.html
at the spec level, NTSC input is the big downer for the glasstrons. another
downer is the weight. big positive is its use of the standard "infolithium"
np-f550/-f750/-f950 batteries. i have seen a few references that the
eye-trek uses the same batteries (under different branding from olympus) --
this makes some sense given eye-trek's will be used on JLA flights where
they use sony personal 8mm VCR's and DVD's which use that power source --
but i haven't been able to confirm it entirely to my satisfaction yet.
you can also order the the sony glasstron and the olympus eye-trek through
http://www.japan-direct.com. japan direct is a great source for products not
otherwise available in the north-american market -- if it's sold in japan,
you can buy it, just tell them what you want. the latest price quote i got
from japan-direct (ask for your own quote before purchasing) is $669 for the
sony glasstron and $519 for the olympus eye-trek.
thx,
n@

I believe it was posted here a while back, and may be in the mailing list
archives.
I think the biggest problem with it is that it will not be sold in the
states. (Typical that all the neat stuff never get's out of japan)
