MacOS X (pronounced MacOS Ten) is based on Unix. According to apple, It will Combine the best of the MacOS interface, with the stability of unix, the speed of BSD networking, and somewher in ther falls the ease of development of OpenStep. You can get all the specifics at http://gemma.apple.com/macosx/ As for a replacement to Linux (I'll assume that you mean in wearables), I don't believe that either NT5 or MacOS X will be able to touch it.
