The problem herin lies with the power on that board. I have one if you want it, I'll give the 486 unit to you for 10 bucks. it draws gobs of power and requires + and - 5 volts, + and - 12 volts for the serial ports. your power inverter would draw away into heat another 2-3 watts so a 7amphour gell cell battery would die within 3-4 hours. It would be better to buy a 486 laptop instead of this backplane board (486 laptops are going for around 200 bucks nowdays, anyone selling one for more is on serious drugs) get a laptop with a dead display is even better check with local computer shops or go dumpster diving at a large corperation (Brunswick here in michigan is wonderful for this!) I found 2 486 laptops that booted but had no case top or display this way. with toshiba pentium 166 laptops selling for 1200.00 USD new, older 66mhz pentuim laptops should be dirt cheap also. ZF microsystems seems to have the perfect PC-104 board... 4 serial ports!!! I have yet to get a price out of them though. I'd love to have a 386sx 40 that small.. 99% of wearable tasks can easily be done on a 386. and they offer a 486 board. ---------- > From: Michael Sharp <> > To:
