Its a worthwhile idea to pursue. Besides other factors such as speech to text time and teanslation then back to speech etc. is that I know that IBM's Voice apps need a minimum of a 200MHz sys with an MMx chip to run. I know because I loaded Dragon and IBM's Voice Pro on my 150 Pentium and tried to run either - they wouldn't. When I finally read the docs I discovered what the minimum requirements were. Also these apps do need to be taught the speaker's way of saying words. It works really well once you have taught the app your pronunciations, especially Dragon. So there would be likely a very high margin of error when picking up a person speaking to you with your mike. Ed-----Original Message----- From:

Subject: Universal Translator Hello all I have been reading this list for a while, and last night a lovely idea popped into my head, and I figured to ask you about the fesability <sp?> so here goes: There are copys of dragon dictate or such for other languages that, with a small directional mike would not be that hard to pipe the speech of someone that you don't speak the language of very well into a text file. this file could then go through a translator ( I know that netscape has a decent one) and then a text reader program (MacTalk or the Amiga Voice) could output that text into your ear of a litte bud headphone. The reverse could be piped through your throat mike into a small speaker on placed on your shoulder, or in your jacket or what ever. I know the inflection would be lost, but I think that it would be a rather usefull addition to the wearables of those who travel abroad, and can't afford a translator. -Travis "I got nail bombs, grenades, plasteek, and a half ounce o' reeeal hot chili powder" Lobo _Lobo vs The Mask_ -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.1 G! d-(+) s:+ a?
