Steve - if your idea of a hobbyist in wearable computing is someone who would be able to rip apart a camcorder or put it back together again as a HMD.. Maybe I'm in the wrong room! Maybe I am. However, I'm obviously also in a closely packed room with lots of other people like me! Maybe there might be a ratio of 100:1 people:"hobbyists" here? In any case, I don't see that as a solution I can really use - if ONLY because of the resolution problem. So! What am I saying? "Hobbyists" may well be able to do the camcorder-display thing but both in terms of technical difficulties and in terms of resolution needs the average (read proficiently posting about names, "vest styles", applications, etc.) wearable enthusiast really needs to focus on the display first. Compared to the difficulty of finding a suitable and cheap display, the rest seems really easy. So bah humbug! Oh, and while I've got your attention - nice paper! -sam
