I assuming besides the name, Mobitex is CDPD (?) but the >BellSouth sales people say it is not, but can't tell me how it is >different... GoAmerica even lists is as a totally separate service. Mobitex is a different network from CDPD, using a different underlying packet protocol, and operating on different carrier frequencies. There is Linux support for at least one of the PCMCIA Mobitex cards; I've forgotten which one, and my notes are on a different machine. This support allows either IP between two machines running these special Mobitex drivers, or direct access to the Mobitex protocol suite. Also relevant: BellSouth offers Internet Access Service (IAS) for Mobitex; this basically means fairly raw packet forwarding from the Mobitex network to a single specific machine on the Internet (one target per IAS subscription). I don't know the details for this offhand, either. - Alex -- Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with subject of "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" to
