StrongArm & Hardware questions

I'm extremely new to software from a programming aspect, Hardware in
general, and expecially hardware as it pertains to wearables. I'm also
earning minimum wage, so I should have plenty of time to learn before I'm
in a position to start buying stuff for my wearable.

Now that you know where I'm coming from, can you give me any tips or
pointers on:

1) From what I've heard, the StrongArm chip doesn't have a floating-point
unit. What kind of software would this affect? I know it isn't nice to
fft's and the like, but how often are floating points used in software
that is commonly used in wearables? Is the power usage/processing power
ratio worth it, or should I go with an intel chip? Can these guys be
SMPed? Where should I look to learn about multi-processing a wearable?

2) I haven't found much on the net on where to get and how to make a
StrongArm-based wearable, other than what goes on wear-hard about people
converting NetWinders. Any info & specs online about people who have done
this without using a NetWinder?

3) Any good books/resources that will teach me what I need to know about
software and hardware with relation to a wearable (including drivers and
self-built hardware, etc...)?

Basically I want to know where I should start, and what I should know
before blowing my money on things that will do me no good. I'd also
like to know my wearable in extreme detail, instead of buying one off the
shelf.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
Robert Evans
