Re: Proxim and linux?

It's nice that a Proxim driver for RangeLAN2 has become available for
Linux, but I'm very suspicious when parts of the software is distributed
in binary only due to proprietary reasons. For my own this make the
driver useless as I will use Digital Alpha Multia as access points and
therefore need source code drivers.

By the way, is there anyone that know something more about the Proxim
cards? There seem to be two types with 100 mW and 400 mW output power.
In the data sheet
http://www.proxim.com/products/mobility/rl802/8400.shtml
they specify the ranges with two different antennas. None of the ranges
are especially impressive. Both Lucent WaveLAN and Gemtek specify
somewhat larger ranges.
What is unclear is what the different power 100 and 400 mW makes in
the obtained range for the Proxim cards.
