Folks,
Jason and I were discussing CDPD more in depth off list and
the topic of unconventional usages came up. My CDPD use is
(as far as I can tell) fairly close to the original intent.
I check my mail, track my portfollio, read the AP news line
and other such "conventional" uses. Occasionally I take my
laptop with me and telecomute. Yes, it is noticably slower
than an land-line connection, but I find the speed bearable
in comparison to the 110 baud modem I started using so many
years ago.
I have used it with a system similar to APRS -- we used my
copy of Street Atlas to remotely track a shopping trip in
my Unimog. While not necessary the goal of CDPD, it was
an amusing project. Again, not all that unconventional
compared to some of the other work that folks on this
list are doing.
The most silly use has been while riding my unicycle
around town. There is just something about wearing
a black leather biking jacket, combat boots and
a head mounted display while riding something
as silly as a unicycle. It is sort of like
the Far Side cartoon of ``How Nature Says
Do Not Touch''. Or maybe only I am the
only one who thinks so...
Slowly I am wiring my house to be
like the "Houses of the Future"
advertisements promised they
would be. My audio-visual
system is connected to a
parallel <--> SonyLink
adapter that I made.
My alarm clock is
a cron-job that
plays apropos
music quite
loudly in
the AM.
It is

So,
do you
have any
other cool
or otherwise
unconventional
uses of wireless
and wearable tech?
I'm looking for more
ideas to expand my toy
and interesting ideas of
how to better make utilize
my investment in w

Back to work...
