Hopefully a wearable beginning

Okay, I hate to post this in some ways because I don't feel I've done
enough research but I'm frustrated searching and hopefully you might be
sympathetic. My main interest at the moment is getting something to
run linux on as I can't imagine a wearable without it from what I've
been reading. Currently I'm unwilling to mess with my laptop by
partitioning an already well used hard drive. So I'm looking into a
system that won't bust a very tight budget but maybe could be used in a
wearable system at some point in the future. I've read up a little on
the pc/104 but I'm wondering if buying such a board along with the hard
drive, a/c power supply and a vga card would be worth my while right
now if my main goal is to learn about and explore linux.

       Thanks for any info.
