Re: Serial Console

My 4DXi comes with instructions to put the board into 'oops' mode by
shorting pins 7 and 8 of the primary (there are two, BTW) serial port at
boot-up.

One additional note on Ampro boards: I purchased an Ampro 4Dxi from
Trilogic a couple of months ago. Trilogic is a nice company in
Massachusetts that I learned about from the MIT pages...

Anyhow, I had trouble getting it to accept keyboard input, and after
getting out the prints from the manual and a VOM, I found that there was
no keyboard power from utility connector J5...in fact the pin for keyboard
power was missing (pin 8) and the barrel on the board was just filled with
solder.

HERE IS WHY I AM BORING YOU WITH THIS STORY!!!
These boards are mass produced using chip insertion machines and then wave
soldered. It is likely that my board wasn't the only one with this fault
on that production day. The fabrication version on my board is listed as a
CM2-4DI-Q-81 revD. So, if you just bought this great little board and you
can't figure out why you can't escape into setup at boot time...check for
5 volts at pin 8 of connector J5! You may not even have a pin 8...

The good news is that both Ampro and Trilogic are great companies and they
were really quick with their RMA substitute.
