Currently, the only way I can boot Linux off DiskOnChip2000 is to leave
the M-Systems firmware in, which allows DOS to use the flash as a
hard-drive whithout adding drivers (does this by extending the BIOS). I
then copy a suitable kernel (without the Linux flash driver, which hangs
the machine at the moment the root filesystem is to be mounted) and a
compressed root filesystem to the flash C: drive and then use loadlin to
load the kernel and the image as an initrd into a ram disk. Works great
but leaves Linux unable to use the flash.

On the flipside, this could make a fabulous wearable lite system or an
excellent emergency recovery system.

My boss however, still wants linux booting natively from flash and able to
use the flash for storage....

that hotwiring cars does not make one a mechanic... paraphr. from ESR
