                          Tiny Sound, Not Tinny!

   According to Samsung (http://www.samsung.com/news/sec0428.html)
<http://www.samsung.com/news/sec0428.html)> , the
sound from this new two-ounce, business-card sized(!), no moving
parts MP3 player called "yepp" rivals that of a CD, and it holds
about ten high quality songs in its 40 megabytes of memory! (Higher
   capacities are possible.)

There's also more in this "less" package -- yepp does FM radio, it
contains a phone directory, and it can record 160 minutes of voice
quality audio. And yepp runs for 10 hours on two AAA batteries.

Interestingly, Samsung also plans an automotive version of the yepp,
as well as a "recording station" that will make it easy to download
music from CDs, tapes, or other MP3 files into the yepp WITHOUT
support from a PC. Does the term "computing appliance" come to mind?

I haven't seen the yepp yet, but if it works as advertised and its
cost is low enough, I can imagine quite a few people saying "yup" to
yepp. And this is just the leading edge of the amazing things that
will soon be inhabiting our shirt pockets, wallets, and purses --
driven there by the rapidly changing face of computing...
