Having just played paintball for the first time this weekend, I'd say it's a prime candidate for augmentation. First, wireless voice communication would be great (this is already done by many players with radios). Then, imagine that your teammates all have POV cameras on them, so when your pal is screaming that there's a guy about twenty yards out, to the left, and you can't see them, you switch your HMD to his perspective and he zooms in on the enemy, showing you where to fire. Perhaps 3D maps of the field, and location beacons on your teammates so you can see an artificial aerial view of the field and where you all are (and where the flags are!). What becomes clear from this game is that information and communication is THE key to winning. The caveat of course is that paintball augmentation systems would have to be EXTREMELY rugged to survive the game. The display could be integrated into the goggles (since you have to wear goggles anyway), but the machine itself would have to be able to survive being rolled over on in the dirt, probably waterproof, etc. Interestingly, the military is doing things like this. There was recently an excersize in California where they tested soldier-based augmentation systems. Everyone on the list probably already knows about this though! :) -Rusty On Mon, 17 May 1999, Chris Thompson wrote: >Given that the wearcomp equipment was available and rugged enough for use in >an indoor/outdoor gaming situation - what other games would you suggest as >interesting examples of possibly augmenting with wearables? >What capabilities (info or visualizations) would you imagine to be pertinent >to have available to the players in the games? >Anybody ever studied wearcomp augmented gaming in detail? > >thanks, >-chris thompson >gtri eoeml > >>> >>>Would anybody be interested in a laser quest type game for wearable PCs? >>>Interface the external hardware (gun(s), sensors, lights) via the parallel >>>port, and then intercommunicate via radio lan/cell phone/radio internet >etc. >> > > >-- >Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with subject of >"subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" to>Wear-Hard Mailing List Archive (searchable): http://wearables.blu.org -- Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with subject of "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" to
