I got the following question in my mailbox today. Figuring there are other people on wear-hard with the same query, the answer is posted to the list. > What is a miniPLEB... The PLEB is a Portable Linux Embedded Box--a pocket computer capable of running the Linux Kernel and a project that was started as a student initiative at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, University of New South Wales, Australia. The PLEB is to use the high performance and low power-consumption StrongARM SA-1100 Microprocessor and its support chip, the SA-1101. Because of problems with the supply of parts and information regarding the SA-1101, it was decided it would be productive in the interim to build a credit card sized MiniPLEB which would use only the StrongARM SA-1100. MiniPLEB also allows a first prototyping stage for MainPLEB. For the MiniPLEB, a number of features like PCMCIA were removed from the MainPLEB design at the benefit of smaller size, lower cost and power usage. MiniPLEB was supposed to be completed ~ six months ago. :( Current status: Schematics: Rev 1.0 Done PCB: Rev 1.0 Done Parts: Everything ordered The situation is actually way more complicated than that, though. It boils down to this: general public availability won't happen for quite a while. If you are a major wearables researcher, you might have a chance at one of twelve early MiniPLEBs, in which case you should get on the PLEB general mailing list and check the site for updates. Much of this information appears in different form on the PLEB site: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~pleb/ (This and other links are collected in the Wearables Central links area.) On the PLEB site, follow the Projects link to learn about MiniPLEB. Also, search the wear-hard archives at Wearables Central to find the PLEB threads from long ago. The search engine tends to be eccentric, but is still a good bet most of the time. -Chris -- Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with subject of "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" toWear-Hard Mailing List Archive (searchable): http://wearables.blu.org
