RE: HMDs feasability and pricing

there are several models of glasstron. the $2000 ones (plm-s100) are SVGA,
30" virtual display, the $700 ones (plm-a55) are VGA, ~50" virtual display.
both types take sony infolithium (NP-F*) batteries -- you can plug in
anything from a 350 to a 950. expect 2.5hrs from a NP-F550.

sony glasstron plm-s100 specs are at
http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/products/av/glasstron/.

all of the following are in the $600-$700 range. of the three, for display
quality i'd recommend the glasstrons as the optics and NTSC->LCD conversion
are noticeably better. none of these are terrific in terms of long-term
wear, and the glasstrons are really not great for walking around -- the
olympus eye-treks are somewhat better.

olympus eye-trek FMD-100, dual .7" 180Kpixel LCDs (note there is a 16:9
variation with higher resolution, the FMD-150w as well, i don't know the
price on that)

canon gt270, 180Kpixel:

note you can order any of these through http://www.japan-direct.com.

Subject: HMDs feasability and pricing

I think I remember a discussion about this a while back, but I was wondering
if anyone has tried the Sony Glasstron display. The reason I mention it is
because I just discovered that it only costs $799 - last I checked it was
around $2000, so this was surprising to me.

Any info on power and batteries, personal experiences, or general comments
are appreciated. Mainly, how long does it last on a standard Sony battery?
