First a disclaimer.. I'm not affiliated with TekGear, or the M1 (and never
met tony)... These views are my own (and not necessarily those of my
employer and funding agents, who don't even know what I am saying)

While the initial "request for interest" was bit was misleading, the phrasing
is not bait and switch. The "technology investment" phrase is just like used
in many an up-front lease.. you pay it all up front but when the new
technology comes along you have an assured resale price.. Not very common
but definitely not new..

While it may be a little misleading to someone who does not read through, its
not convoluted and I actually think what they are offering is a good deal.
There are always better products on the horizon and the question of whether to
invest 500$ in a 320x240 HMD now might seem like throwing away money if the
640x480 are 6-12 months away. (Though it will probably be 12-15 months
before the prices drop). If you don't get hung up on the 150$ as the price,
but look at it as an offer of a 350 "assured return price" when the user buys
an M2, this is is still a very customer friendly approach. (Even if the tone
was slightly user-car-like). Look beyond the pitch and see what the ball is
doing.
