yes, indeed that was my general notion. it's strange that the resolution
i was getting in HMDs 20 years ago exceeds that which we often find in
today's units.

some of the old 1980s CRTs are good for 1024 lines of resolution in true
24 bit full colour depth, and the tonal range and fidelity are quite nice.

i still find many of the units out these days still have that pastel
wishy-washed out look and lack nice solid colour depth and definition,
which is essential for much of the personal imaging work i've been doing.

the general spirit of the wearhow
http://wearcam.org/wearhow/index.html
was to help hobbyists experiment with low cost solutions that
are easily attainable by anyone who's got the natural curiosity
(if not the cash) to explore.

i'm thinking back to my childhood days of building wearcomps
on a zero budget.

of course those in the military industrial
sector can just have a brinks truck bring in some cash and get
the high-end research prototypes.
instead, my aim was more to reach the ordinary folk who are creative
but not wealthy.

if you know what you're doing you can do wonders with a cheap 486 pc104
board and a $20 tube.
