I would think the cylinder would be better than a tape, since theres no need
for spooling, etc. Wouldn't the image be distorted though?
A nice point about this display is it will probably lead to the cheapest
colour display possible: just use one of those RGB LEDs.

A fell a good solution would be to use a square, and then move it back and
forth sideways with a linear actuator.

Wouldn't a better solution for generating the disc be to print out on laser
transparencies?
