Here's a thought. Rather than a rotating disk, which allows only a
very small viewing area, even with a fairly large disk, why not redesign
it as a cylinder?
If I understand the base technology correctly, each scan line is drawn
by a single perforation as it scans across the field of view -- should be
simple enough to mark it out on a cylinder (or endless loop tape) in
order
to manage *straight* scan lines and possibly a reduced size. (or
"folded"
tape)
You know, come to think of it, the scanned LED/fiber array works
exactly like this. The fiber "hole" admits AM modulated light into the
viewing area -- but the scanned fiber system draws more than one
scan line at a time.
