Roland:
Yes, I've recently purchased a set of Aironet 4800 (11 MBps) cards
which I'll use with my wearable. One good reason for choosing the
Aironet was that (as far as I have understood) 1) only these do 11MBps
according to the IEEE 802.3, others like WaveLAN Turbo only stick to
the IEEE standard at lower speeds. 2) Linux drivers are available
(essential condition for me) 3) Their antenna can be snapped off when
you go for an external antenna to get a slimmed PCMCIA-card.
I'll put access points at critical points as my institute, my home,
my car. To begin with I'll use my laptop as a portable access point,
i.e. I will most likely not buy so many real access points, they are
rather expensive. Anyway, so far I have no experience of these cards
but any month now...
As I have understood the 11 MBps will not go much more than 30 m
and probably less, depending on your building. I think I will reach
400 m at 1 MBps but probably more with a better antenna. Actually
I don't know what is the best antenna for this. Probably I should use
some kind of helmet (ground plane and radiation protection) like in
the old pictures of Steve Mann (but smaller microwave antenna).

        Best regards
        Roland
