Your ghettoModem is actually called an acoustice coupler and were they only choice for modems back in the old day. Watch WarGames again if you want to see an example of a bulky one; Mathew Broderick uses one with the computer in his bedroom in the film. You muust have been born in the 80's if you haven't heard of them. Here's an example of one: http://extremecomputing.com/xcom/konaccoup.html They aren't too expensive so I would suggest just buying one. Only around $99. You can get cheaper ones if you search. Do a few searches for "acoustic coupler" Jobe ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: ghettoModem Author:at INTERNET Date: 9/9/99 3:08 PM Hello. A friend and I had an idea which we are currently pursuing which might be good for net connection for wearables. The idea is to basically hook up a phone handset to a modem (and maybe to run a small current through it to simulate a line being used?) and basically sign on to an internet service (perhaps through a home computer that's hooked up through a different line) by 69ing the ghettoModem (mic to speaker and speaker to mic) with a payphone or some other handy phone, probably with some sound insulation around the connections so as to avoid interference... Anyone have any thoughts? Are there any pitfalls an unexperienced person such as myself should know about, or has anyone ever done something like this before? -- Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with subject of "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" to
