<Topical Shameless Plug> We have done something along this line here at WearableTech Corp. We first designed a easy to use wearable specific UI and then added functionality. It is in Java so it will run on many platforms (minus: OS specific API's such as ViaVoice for Windows) This software, named Edeus (pronounced "E" - "D" - us) allows the user to view HTML, Text, Image, Sound, Video. As well write text into forms or freely. The real power is in the KDF (Knowledge Data Format) which allows you to organize the media listed above into procedures and tasks. All of this is done in one window so you don't have to navigate through multiple screens/programs. </Topical Shameless Plug> Ken Williams -WearableTech Corp. Subject: Wearable UI, was Paradigms... >>>>> "L.X." == Legacy Xunker <

Thanks for bringing this thread back to wearables. As you suggest, I to would much rather talk about UI than OS. So, here are my thoughts on UI: Something that will run on many OS's and architectures available to the experimenter and is distributed as open source. Something that doesn't care if you are using speech, a windowing system, braille, mouse, puffer switch, a 40x6 text only display or all of them at once... Something robust enough to let you do system tasks, email, listen to mpegs, control external devices, all with a consistant user interface that users controls and can customize all they like... Perhaps something that already has a large, non-wearing user base to help maintain and expand it... Something extensible, customizable, self-documenting... Now that I think about it, it sounds kind of familiar... Wait a second, let me check the Emacs documentation and see what I can find... Greg -- Greg Priest-Dorman
