Hi Chris,

You might try getting a small glass tube, heating it till it bends a bit,
and then sealing one end with some epoxy resin, then putting a drop of
mercury in it, and sealing the other end with resin with a couple of bare
tips of wire poking thru the resin. If the slightly U-shaped tube is moved
to one side then depending on the degree of bend the mercury will roll to
the end with the wires and close a circuit between them. You can make the
angle of bend suit your purposes.

Just remember that Mercury is poisonous (actually it is the compounds of
mercury that are poisonous I think, but I would still exercise caution).
Make sure the tube is well sealed.

I believe this kind of mercury switch is used in some car alarms.
